Nigerians Dominate BET’s “Best International Act: Africa” Category

The nominees for this years edition of the BET awards are out and for those who are not familiar with the awards, “The BET Awards were established in 2001 by the Black Entertainment Television network to celebrate African Americans and other minorities in music, acting, sports, and other fields of entertainment over the past year“- Wikipedia.

Hosting this years edition is funnyman/actor Kevin Hart (Soul Plane, Little Fockers) who is making it known that he’s ready to take on the show and try to build on what the past hosts have done. In his own words, “I’m excited to join a group of that caliber… As far as the people who did it before me, they were warm-ups,” he says boldly. “They were good. I laughed. But they ain’t make nobody cry.

One reason why more Nigerians would probably watch this edition more than the last one would have to be the category for Best International Act: Africa which has got two Nigerian nominees (more than any other country produced). In the category are; 2Face Idibia (Nigeria), D’Banj (Nigeraia), D-Black (Ghana), Fally Ipupa (DR Congo), Angelique Kidjo (Benin), TearGas (South Africa).

This years edition would be held at The Shrine Auditorium-Los Angeles on the 26th of June, 2011. For more details follow the link BET Awards
